Questions about credit cards

What credit score do I need for a credit card?

Rewards cards generally expect good or excellent credit (690 and above). Secured cards and some student cards accept limited or no credit history. Approval also depends on income and existing debt.

Does applying for a card hurt my credit?

A formal application triggers a hard inquiry, which can lower your score by a few points for a short time. Checking whether you prequalify usually uses a soft inquiry and has no effect.

Is a card with an annual fee worth it?

It can be, if the rewards and credits you will actually use exceed the fee. Add up the yearly value of the benefits you would use and compare it with the fee before you apply.

How does a 0% intro APR work?

For the promotional period, purchases or transferred balances accrue no interest. When it ends, any remaining balance is charged the card's regular APR, so plan to pay it off before then.
