How we rank loans and credit cards

Where our figures come from, how we order them, and what we do when a lender leaves something out.

Where the figures come from

Every rate, fee and term on Good Day Loans is read from the lender’s or issuer’s own product page. Each product page names that page, links to it, and shows the date we read it. We do not use figures from review sites, and we do not copy anyone’s ratings.

We currently compare personal loans and credit cards. A loan category opens for comparison only when we have verified at least two offers in it. Until then it is marked coming soon, and we show any single rate a lender publishes with the assumptions attached to it.

When a figure is missing

If a lender does not publish something, we say so. We never fill the gap with a guess. A missing figure cannot win a row in a side-by-side comparison. Where a lender does not publish a minimum credit score, we assume fair credit (630 or higher) for the purpose of filtering, and we show “Not published” on the page.

How loans are ranked

The default order is the estimated total cost of borrowing: interest plus origination fees, for the amount and term you choose and the credit range you select. We do not rank on the advertised starting rate, because the lowest rate in a range is reserved for the strongest borrowers.

To estimate the rate for your credit range, we place it within the lender’s published APR range according to score band. Lenders do not publish where each band falls, so this is our modeling assumption, not a lender quote. Treat it as a planning figure.

Where each credit range falls within a lender’s APR range
Credit rangeScorePosition in APR range
Excellent720–8508% of the way from lowest to highest
Good690–71938% of the way from lowest to highest
Fair630–68968% of the way from lowest to highest
Limited300–62994% of the way from lowest to highest

How credit cards are ordered

Cards are ordered by annual fee, lowest first, then by the earn rate on everyday purchases. We do not assign a dollar value to points or miles, so a points rate is never treated as equal to a cash back rate. You can re-sort by regular APR or the length of the 0% introductory period, and filter by credit range and annual fee.

What does not affect ranking

Compensation. Good Day Loans is not currently paid by any institution listed here. If that changes, paid placements will be labeled as such, and no institution will be able to pay for a higher position or the removal of unfavorable terms.

How often figures are checked

Figures are checked by hand against the source page on the date shown on each product, and we do not yet refresh them automatically. Rates, bonuses and even product availability change without notice, so always confirm the current terms with the lender before you apply.

Limits of our estimates

Lenders decide rates using information we do not have, including income, debts, employment, collateral and state-specific rules. Our figures assume a borrower who matches the credit range selected and are meant for comparison. Good Day Loans is not a lender or a financial advisor, and nothing on this site is a commitment to lend.
